C++17 guarantees the postfix-expression naming the called function is sequenced before evaluation of its arguments, so L->linkPhase1(std::move(L)) is well-formed without the LTmp indirection. This should also be implemented by MSVC now. See here (P0145R3 and P0400R0): https://learn.microsoft.com/ar-sa/cpp/overview/visual-cpp-language-conformance?view=msvc-170 Disclaimer: As I have no LLVM Windows machine with MSVC at hand, I was not able to test it myself. The LLVM Compiler Infrastructure ================================ This directory and its subdirectories contain source code for LLVM, a toolkit for the construction of highly optimized compilers, optimizers, and runtime environments. LLVM is open source software. You may freely distribute it under the terms of the license agreement found in LICENSE.txt. Please see the documentation provided in docs/ for further assistance with LLVM, and in particular docs/GettingStarted.md for getting started with LLVM and docs/README.txt for an overview of LLVM's documentation setup. If you are writing a package for LLVM, see docs/Packaging.rst for our suggestions.
